Latlorcan Residents Association

Newsletter April 2010.

Following on from last months tree planting and litter sweep this weekend we will be starting digging and planting some flower beds in the common areas of the estate. We intend to begin the work on digging and preparing the flowerbeds this Saturday from 11 o’clock onwards.

Any suggestions for plants or shrubs to be used would be greatly appreciated. We have opened accounts with some local gardening centres, and we are open to suggestions from residents on all aspects of the work – the shape, size, location and type of planters. Please feel free to come along and give your suggestions and also to get involved if you can.

This month is also national spring clean month and with this in mind we hope to carry out a litter sweep on the estate also beginning on Saturday. The tidy Towns collected 7 bin bags of rubbish on their last sweep of the common areas, and this weekend we hope to concentrate on the outstanding areas that need attention. Again volunteers are required and we would be grateful for any help that can be given. We have equipment - gloves, bags etc. so please feel free to just come along and chip in whenever you can!

The committee are also in the process of applying for grants for further improvement works to the estate. The Tidy Towns network is also continuing their works in the estate painting fences in the common areas. We would like to thank them for their work to date and encourage residents to get involved in the Tidy Towns network and volunteer for works not only in the estate but also throughout the Town when you can. We also want to assure residents that we are working with the local council in whatever way we can to seek action on the other issues of concern, notably the deterioration of the roads in the estate, and with the lack of work to the front of the estate and to the public lighting.

Finally we would like to note that the estate generally has begun to look much better in the last month given the improvement in the weather and the fine work done by many residents to their properties in the last month. We understand that Paul Treanor will carry out the first cut on the grass in the common areas on behalf of the developer soon, and hope they can come to an arrangement to continue cutting the grass at least for the remainder of this year.

For further details or discussion on these matters or if you want the committee to raise any new issues in the coming months please contact any of the committee members or log onto http://latlorcan.ie/ or find us on facebook – search for Latlorcan Residents Association.
